First community tree planting event in Shuttleworth Park

This event was organised by Jane Steenstra from Galleywall nature reserve

Volunteers had a fantastic time planting saplings in Shuttleworth Park

Would you like to plant trees in your neighbourhood? Watch out for local tree planting and mulching events in Bermondsey. Tree planting is a great way to get to know your neighbours and to create a better environment for people and local wildlife.

First tree planting event in Shuttleworth Park

On the 24th November 2019, South Bermondsey came together for the first community tree planting day in Shuttleworth park. The day was organised and run by Jane Steenstra from Galleywall nature reserve and was open to everyone across the community to plant a tree and dedicate it to a loved one if they wished.

A huge group of about 30 volunteers turned up and planted 250 trees made up of native species like Hawthorn, Hazel, Crab Apple, Downy Birch, Willow and Holly. It was fantastic to see people of all ages from across the community come together.

If you would like to get involved please watch out for upcoming events. We hope to organise a follow-up tree caring day in March to mulch the existing trees and following the success of last year organise another community tree planting day in November this year.
